Easy Mermaid Craft for Kids

Well, we are the first week into the summer break and already hearing " I'm bored". We tried this one out over the weekend and let me tell you, if you are looking for a fun and simple craft to spark some underwater imagination this is it! This Easy Mermaid Craft is perfect for little hands and big imaginations! Using an egg carton and a few common supplies, you can create your own magical mermaid in no time.

✂️ Materials Needed:

• 1 egg carton (cardboard type works best)

• Paint (any colors you love for mermaids!)

• Construction paper

• Child-safe scissors

• Stickers (stars, gems, or anything sparkly!)

• String or yarn (for mermaid hair!)

• Glue or tape

• Markers (optional – for drawing faces or details)

🎨 Instructions:

Step 1: Prep the Tail

Cut out two - five egg carton cups. These will be the base of your mermaid's tail. Trim the edges to shape them like tail fins if you'd like.

Step 2: Paint Time!

Paint the egg carton cups in your favorite mermaid colors – think ocean blues, seafoam green, purples, or sparkly pink! Let them dry.

Step 3: Create the Body

Cut a piece of construction paper into a body shape to form the mermaid’s body. fold the bottom and glue or tape it to the top of the painted tail.

Step 4: Make the Hair

Cut construction paper yarn or string into small strands and glue it to the top of the body the mermaid’s hair. Let the kids choose the hair color – blue, purple, or rainbow!

Step 5: Add the Magic

Use stickers to decorate your mermaid's tail and body. Draw on a face, or stick on googly eyes for extra fun!

• Use metallic or glitter paint for a shimmering mermaid look.

• Create a whole mermaid crew with different colors and styles!

• Add a popsicle stick to the bottom for a fun puppet version.
